Posesives

Possessives indicate who owns something.

They can function as determiners or pronouns in the sentence: Este es mi perro/El perro es mío.

POSSESSIVES PERFORMING AS DETERMINANT (unstressed prossesives)

• Unstressed possessives or determiners: they accompany the noun to indicate to whom something belongs, and they agree with it in gender and number.
  Mi perro es muy obediente.
  Vuestra casa es muy grande.

Possessives working as pronoun (stressed possessives)

Examples:
Mi madre es enfermera.
Su perro es negro.
Nuestro aniversario es el 2 de enero.

• Possessives can be pronouns or just perform an emphatic function.
• Pronoun function:
  They replace the noun: Tus zapatos son azules, los míos marrones.
  They are employed when the noun has been already previously:
  Nuestro padre es médico, el tuyo es periodista.
  If the verb ser appears in the sentence, the possessive pronouns will appear with the definite article right before them.
• Emphatic function:
  In the sentence they are located before the noun, in order to underline the object possessed by the speaker.
  ¡Hijo mío! ¿Ya estás recuperado?
